Three things decide compatibility: your machines, how you take payment, and your data. Here is the honest answer for each.

MDB is the standard cashless interface on modern vending machines, and the Rain Pay reader connects over it. Most machines built in the last couple of decades support it. There is no retrofit for a machine that cannot take MDB cashless.

Bring your setup across.
Dryline imports from two formats: a NAMA VDI 2.0 file, the vending industry’s interchange standard, or a CSV. Coming from Nayax, Cantaloupe/Seed, or a spreadsheet? If it exports one of those, your setup comes across; if you are not sure, that is what the setup review is for.

Common questions
Compatibility, answered
- How do I know if my machine is MDB-capable?
- MDB (Multi-Drop Bus) has been the standard vending interface for decades, so most machines built in roughly the last twenty years support it. If a machine has an MDB port, the Rain Pay reader connects to it.
- Is there a retrofit for machines without an MDB port?
- No. There is no retrofit kit; the reader needs an MDB port to connect. Machines old enough to lack one cannot take the Rain Pay reader.
- Can I keep taking coins and bills?
- Yes. The reader adds tap, chip, and swipe alongside the coin mechanism and bill validator already on the machine, over the same MDB bus. Cash keeps working exactly as before.
- Can I use my own payment processor?
- No. Rain Pay processing is part of the solution: it is what ties every card vend to the product in the slot and feeds reconciliation. The rate is flat and quoted with your order.
- I have Nayax or Cantaloupe today. Can I switch?
- Usually, yes. The Rain Pay reader replaces the cashless reader on the machine over MDB, and if your current system exports a NAMA VDI 2.0 file or a CSV we bring your locations, machines, and products across. A setup review is there if you want a hand moving the data.
- What data can you bring across from my current system?
- Your locations, machines, and products from a NAMA VDI 2.0 file or a CSV, plus your machine layouts and opening stock from a NAMA VDI 2.0 file. Past sales history stays in your current system. See the full breakdown on the Switching page.
